Destruction of Hindu Temples in Jammu Kashmir
Temples of Shopian
Shopian, situated roughly at the height of 2146 meters, is one of the coldest districts of Jammu Kashmir. Geographical location of the region makes it significant as it is surrounded by Pulwama, Anantnag and Kukgam. The region, according to locals, was called “Shin-Van” meaning “snow forest”.
Following the partition of British-India, the princely state of Jammu Kashmir acceded with “The Union of India”
Shopian town is of historical significance in Kashmir due to its location on the imperial route, commonly known as Mughal Road, that connected Lahore (now in Pakistan) and Srinagar. After the partition of British-India, the princely state of Jammu Kashmir acceded with “The Union of India '' to form the new state of Jammu & Kashmir. And the following era of post-partition saw Pakistan sponsered terrorism and radilcal Islamic elements dismanteling Hindu temples of the state. So we have compiled a list of temples that were destroyed in Shopian by these anti-India conspirators.
