Martyr Babu Ram, was born on 15th May 1972 in Dharana village of Mendhar District in Poonch. Since his childhood he was fond of joining the armed forces. He was recruited as a Constable in J&K Police on 30th July 1999 and after completion of his basic Induction, he voluntarily opted for SOG and was later posted in Special Operations Group (SOG), Srinagar (Cargo) on 27th July 2002.
Babu Ram was a thorough professional who has given his best in services. He got two out of turn promotions in view of his exceptional performance in various anti-terrorism operations in Srinagar.
He got injured in an encounter while evacuating civilians in an anti-terrorism operation at Lal Chowk, Srinagar. The officer laid down his life fighting three LeT terrorists at Pantha chowk in the city on Sunday. All these terrorists were killed in the encounter.
A courageous and determined person, Babu Ram had remained at the forefront in various counter-insurgency operations during his 18 year service in S.O.G. of Jammu and Kashmir Police and was a role model for newcomers in the Police force as S.O.G. in particular.
Speaking of his son, at a tender age of 15, Manik lost his father, ASI Babu Ram, to terrorist’s bullets. He now wants to join the Army and stamp out terrorism in the Kashmir Valley. Proud of his father's martyrdom, Manik said, "I am too young to join the forces. But I wish to join it now and avenge his killing. I salute my father for his service in eliminating terrorists in Kashmir. I am proud of him. He was a brave officer."
"I will join the Army and follow the footprints of my father. I will fight to wipe out terrorism in Kashmir. I want terrorism to be brought to an end in Kashmir with force so that more lives are not lost," the grieving teenager said.
Babu Ram showed the highest level of professionalism while discharging his duties. In view of his outstanding performance he was awarded two out of turn Promotions. Besides this he was very disciplined, and humane in approach. He always remained committed to ensure zero collateral damages while executing deadliest anti-terrorist ops and thwarted terrorist attacks in Srinagar on civilians and Special Forces.
