The devious intentions of terrorists wanting to target the army convoy in the valley got discomfited on Thursday when the Army Bomb Disposal team diffused an IED containing 25 kgs of high explosive on NH-11 in Anantnag district.

The IED was detected by vigilant troops during the road clearance of NH-11 undertaken on Thursday morning. Following which the site was immediately cordoned off and Army Bomb Disposal teams were rushed to the location. If gone undetected, it could inflict as much damage as the suicide attack in Pulwama in February early this year.

The army released pictures of the IED on Friday. The bombing squad risking their lives, not only separated two IEDs from the cylinder-shaped container but also diffused them effectively.

As per the Army officials, "In a desperate attempt to inflict civilian casualties and terrorise the populace, terrorists planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing 25 Kg of High Explosive on the NH-11 near Khudwani Bridge. Despite the risk, the Bomb Disposal teams dug out the embedded IED comprising of two cylindrical containers of 15 and 10 kg each filled with explosives and destroyed it in situation.”
