Jammu Kashmir celebrates Constitution Day for the first time

Jammu and Kashmir is today celebrating National Constitution Day for the very first time in history. The celebrations were marked by the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India by Lt Governor Murmu and advisor Farooq Khan along with Govt officials who pledged together to uphold fundamental duties.
 
 
To acknowledge the contribution of the framers of the Constitution and sensitize people regarding the exalted values and the precepts enshrined in it, November 26 is being observed as Constitution Day in India from 70 years.
 
 
The day has a historical significance as it was on this day that our Constitution was adopted in 1949 and thereafter came into force on Jan 26th, 1950, marking the beginning of India as a republic.
 
 
However, this year, for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir too celebrated the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India along with the rest of the country. Previously, J&K had a separate constitution for the state that was in place since 26th Nov 1957.
 
 
The Preamble to the Constitution was read out in the Civil Secretariat, District HQs, Police HQs across UT of Jammu Kashmir, officials also took pledge to the Fundamental Duties.
 
 
 
 
The Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs was nominated as the nodal department to coordinate the activities of the departments of school education, law, justice and parliamentary affairs, GAD, higher education social welfare, home, housing and urban development, youth services and sports, rural development and Panchayati Raj, tourism and information.
