In honour of Martyr Major Udai Singh. Accoladed with Gallantry awards, Shaurya Chakra (P) and Sena Medal for showing exemplary courage and excellent marksmanship.
Born to an army officer on Oct 7th, 1974, Major Udai grew up in a military surrounding. He spent his childhood in Army cantonments while he aspired to be an army man himself. In June 1997, he passed out from prestigious IMA.
He had volunteered for the special forces after 5 yrs of service and was later commissioned into the first battalion of the Parachute Regiment. Mostly posted in the valley, the brave-heart had fought the Kargil war too.
On the night 29th Nov 2003, Maj Udai had launched a search & destroy operation in late hours after being tasked to demolish the intelligence and logistics network of the terrorists in Rajouri District of J&K. While leading his squad in a closed quarter combat with the terrorists, Maj Udai sustained gunshot wound in the neck. Before succumbing to his injuries, Maj Udai killed one terrorist and wounded another displaying extraordinary courage.
The brave-heart was awarded Shaurya Chakra posthumously.
