The Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak, and Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan have jointly conducted a survey on both sides of the Line of Control to find the same pulse of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and PoJK recently. To see if people of Jammu and Kashmir and PoJK are happy in their lives or they still live under fear since there has always been a debate about this matter. The shared survey has been done on the lifestyle of the people of Kashmir valley as well which has disclosed some interesting information along with some hidden facts about the people from POJK.

In the survey done on 1425 people, people of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and also Gilgit-Baltistan are included. The survey says that the region has seen many major conflicts, including the wars of 1948, 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1999 Kargil. It also mentions the violent clash between India and China wherein 20 Indian soldiers were martyred, and more than 35 Chinese soldiers were killed. Through this survey, an attempt was made to know the aspirations of the people living in this area so that their opinion about health services, education, and development in their areas can be ascertained.

Meanwhile, the center of this survey was a group of 20 to 30 years youth who would decide the future of this area. Through the survey, 12 questions were asked in which the group had to answer based on the happiness quotient. Given a chance, would they prefer to keep living in the same areas or will they leave for somewhere else seeking a better life.

Here’s the information and major facts came out from the survey:

The survey showed that 4 out of 5 people in Jammu and Ladakh and 7 out of 10 in Kashmir are incredibly happy with life in their region and believe that they are living better lives than their parents' generation. On the other hand, every other person in PoJK and 4 out of 5 people in Gilgit-Baltistan are not happy with life in their area and believe that their life is not better than their parents' generation.

  • According to the survey, around 76% of Ladakh, 69% of Jammu, and 60% of Kashmir valley are happy with the government, while only 49% of PoJK and only 30% of Gilgit-Baltistan are happy with their government.
  • In search of employment, 51% of PoJK, 52% of Gilgit-Baltistan residents are willing to leave their area and move to other areas. At the same time 39% of Jammu, 19% from Ladakh and 41% from the valley want to leave their residential areas.
  • Shockingly enough, PoJK and almost every other citizen of Gilgit-Baltistan wants to leave their area for a better life and betterment of their children, while in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh this figure is about 3 out of 10.
  • While 67% of Kashmiris, 70% from Jammu, and 74% from Ladakh are satisfied with health services, 54% of people in PoJK and 27% in Gilgit-Baltistan are happy with health services.
  • Nearly 75% of people in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh believe that their area has made progress more than their parents' generation, however, only 53% of PoJK and 28% of Gilgit-Baltistan believe that there is any growth.
  • In terms of education, 82% of Ladakh, 79% of Jammu, and 72% of Kashmir valley people believe that there are better education facilities than the previous generation, but this figure is 55% in Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir and in Gilgit-Baltistan. The figure is only 33%.
  • The received data, therefore, not only reveals much of the information from the covered regions, but it also exposes the hidden agendas and lies of Pakistan who instead of working on the scope of improvement in Gilgit Baltistan and POJK, only keeps on targeting the locals of the area. However, India, at the same time has not only made immense growth in its side but is also dedicatedly working for the welfare of people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, which clearly has come out from this survey.
