Independence Day celebrated across Kashmir
 
 
75th Independence Day was celebrated across whole Kashmir with zeal and zest. What's new was the passion of hoisting tricolor amongst the residents of Kashmir who not only unfurled the national flags but took part in the celebrations also by organising rallies and hoisting tricolor at their homes under Azadi ka Amrit mahotsav campaign. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of India’s people, culture and achievements.
 
The tricolour was hoisted on top of the historic Clock Tower in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Monday morning amid the chants of the slogan ‘bharat mata ki jai'. Authorities didn't shut down the internet services on the occassion as it was the routine affair in the past. Though security was heightened but there were no restrictions of any kind on free movement of the locals.
 
Schools across the Valley celebrated Independence Day with much fervour. Meanwhile, all government buildings in the Valley were decorated with colourful flowers.
 
As part of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, rallies were taken out in different parts of the Valley including remote villages near the LoC. `Har Ghar Tiranga` is the campaign launched by the Government of India to encourage every citizen of our great nation to bring home the tricolour and hoist it with pride.
 
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the main function at Sher-e-Kashmir cricket stadium here. This year’s celebrations were highlighted by the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as national flags were literally hoisted in every nook and corner of the valley.
 
 
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during his speech urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take a pledge to make the Union Territory Nasha-Mukt (free of drugs), Bhrashtachar-Mukt (corruption free) and Rojgaar-Yukt (employable).
 
The town of Sopore which was considered a hotbed of separatist politics witnessed a first-of-its-kind Tiranga Rally on Saturday. The rally was headed by the president of Municipal Council Sopore Masarat Kar and joined by various other civil administration officials, students from various schools and locals.The presence of scores of students, locals and other people proved that the people of Sopore are looking for change and prosperity in the region.
 
Flag hoisting ceremonies were held in all districts across the Kashmir Valley where the DDC Chairperson/ members hoisted the tricolor and addressed the participants.
 
Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian, districts of South Kashmir which were considered hotbeds of terrorism. In Shopian, DDC Chairperson, Bilquees Jan hoisted the national flag at District Police lines Shopian.
 
 
In Anantnag district, National flag was hoisted by DDC Chairman at GDC Khanabal where several colourful programs were organised by the students.
 
In Pulwama district aslo, Independence Day was celebrated with zeal and zest where students took part in the colourful programmes.
 
In Kulgam district , main function was held at DPL Kulgam where DDC Chairman unfurled the National flag.DC,SSP Kulgam with other officers of Civil administration, Police & CRPF, Army were present.
