Srinagar's first multiplex inaugurated by LG Manoj Sinha, first in more than three decades

After three decades, Kashmir Valley's wait for a multiplex ended with the opening of a first multiplex there. LG J&K inaugurated the INOX multiplex here and stated that each district in the UT will have 100-seater cinema halls soon. The premises will also have a food court aimed at promoting local cuisine.
The multiplex which has been inaugurated in Srinagar will be run by INOX. As it has been reported earlier that the multiplex has three large auditoriums and a total seating capacity of over 500 people at a time. Inox manager on the occassion said, the INOX multiplex has the same facilities, as that of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or any other city in the country. Multiplex will be thrown open to the public with a special screening of Aamir Khan-starrer 'Lal Singh Chaddha'.
While speaking at the launch of the multiplex today, LG Sinha said: "With the advent of new film policies in the state, more films are being shot here now. We will also be establishing a film city in the coming months, allotment of land for the film city is done already."
Project chairman Vijay Dhar (a Kashmiri Hindu) was saying: "We saw there had been no such thing here for 30 years. We thought why not? So we've just started. The youngsters should get the same facilities in the cinema which they get in Jammu or in other towns of the country.
Pertains to mention here that two multipurpose cinema halls were opened by LG in Shopian and Pulwama districts on Sunday.
Cinema halls in the valley were closed in the early 90s after terrorism erupted in the Kashmir region. The valley had more than 15 cinema halls at the time, out of which nine were in Srinagar, but all of them were forcefully closed by terrorists decades ago. However, the government during 1999-2000 tried to re-open a few cinema halls but subsequent terrorist attacks forced them to close the cinema halls. It's now, after thirty long years, cinema is returning to the Kashmir valley.
