26/11 Hero Tukaram Omble

Tukaram Omble's story is one of bravery and sacrifice. On November 26, 2008, a group of Pakistani terrorists launched a series of coordinated attacks in Mumbai, targeting various locations including the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Tukaram Omble was one of the police officers who responded to the call for help.

During the attacks, the terrorists hijacked a car and were trying to escape when Tukaram Omble, along with his fellow officers, intercepted them. Despite being heavily outnumbered and outgunned, Omble fearlessly confronted the terrorists. He managed to grab hold of one of them, Ajmal Kasab, and held onto him tightly, even as Kasab fired at him.

Omble’s brave act allowed his fellow officers to overpower Kasab and capture him alive. However, during the struggle, Omble sustained multiple gunshot wounds and tragically lost his life. His selfless act of heroism saved countless lives and ensured that one of the terrorists was brought to justice.

Tukaram Omble's sacrifice was widely recognized and honored. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award, for his extraordinary bravery and dedication to duty. His story serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice exhibited by the brave men and women in uniform who protect us all.
