Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday wrote a letter to President Arif Alvi to institute an immediate enquiry against ex- Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa for violating his oath of office repeatedly as the army chief.
In a letter addressed to President of Pakistan, Khan highlighted four ways in which the ex-army chief violated the oath of his office.
PTI leader Shireen Mazari shared the letter on her twitter handle.
Firstly, Imran Khan wrote that Bajwa referred to him as a danger to the country while arguing that he was democratically elected.
PTI chief raised the question that who gave Bajwa the power to decide that an elected PM was supposedly a danger to the country if he continued to stay in power. He added that only the people through elections can decide who they want to elect as PM.
Secondly, Khan listed Bajwa’s alleged admission that he managed to get NAB ( National Accountability Bureau) case against Shaukat Tarin dismissed. By this, Khan claimed that NAB doesn’t come under military control but Bajwa was allegedly controlling it which is clear violation of the constitutional oath.
Thirdly Khan referred to a You Tube vlog made by journalist Aftab Iqbal wherein Gen. Bajwa told him in conversation that he had tapes of then PM Imran Khan’s conversation with him.
PTI chief called it a serious violation of Bajwa’s oath of office. Khan raised the question that why and under what authority was Bajwa recording confidential conversations.
Lastly, Khan added " another serious violation of his oath was committed when Bajwa publicly went against the then government policy of maintaining neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine war”. Khan wrote that according to various constitutional articles, it is the President’s constitutional duty to take action against the violation of Bajwa in his tenure.
Pertinently, in an interview to Voice of America on 10 February, Imran Khan while giving a clean chit to United States held former army chief Bajwa responsible for the conspiracy which resulted in his ouster from PM’s office via a no confidence motion last year. Khan had also voiced his demand for an internal military enquiry against Bajwa.
