Iron Will Needed to Remove Article 370

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, said that ending Article 370 required immense courage. “It took iron will to abrogate Article 370. When Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister again in 2019, we removed Article 370 and Article 35A in Parliament,” Shah said.

He criticized the Congress for their earlier claims that abrogating Article 370 would lead to widespread violence. They said rivers of blood would flow in Jammu and Kashmir, but no one even dared to throw stones, he added.

Highlighting the positive changes after the decision, Shah noted that for the first time, 35,000 panchayat members were elected in Jammu and Kashmir. Over two crore tourists have visited the region, and terrorist activities have reduced by 92%. He also mentioned that communities like the Paharis, Gujjars, Bakarwals and Valmikis have received reservations.

Shah further said the national flag now flies at Lal Chowk and highlighted development projects like the construction of the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River. He accused the Congress of running “appeasement politics,” saying their shop had shut down after the abrogation of Article 370.
