6 December 1956, On his death anniversary, the nation honours Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a tireless advocate for equality and social justice.
Born on April 14, 1891, Dr. Ambedkar dedicated his life to the upliftment of the marginalized, fighting against caste discrimination, untouchability, and social inequalities. As the principal drafter of the Indian Constitution, he laid down the principles of justice, liberty, and equality for all citizens.
Dr. Ambedkar also opposed the provisions of Article 370, which provided Jammu and Kashmir with different constitutional provisions compared to the rest of the country. He believed that such provisions would create divisions within the nation and undermine its unity. Dr. Ambedkar envisioned a fully integrated India where all regions and states were governed by the same laws and principles, fostering national cohesion.
Dr. Ambedkar’s stance against Article 370 reflects his commitment to national unity and equality. His vision found new resonance when the provisions of Article 370 were effectively changed on 5 August 2019, further advancing the goal of a unified India.
