After Destruction by Terrorism, Maa Uma Bhagwati Temple in Anantnag Reopens After 34 Years

 

 

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai officiated the reopening ceremony at Brari Aangan in the Shangus area. Thousands of devotees, particularly Kashmiri Hindus from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, attended the event to pay their respects to Goddess Uma Bhagwati.

 

The idol of goddess Uma, which was brought from Rajasthan, was placed in the sanctum sanctorum amid chanting of religious hymns.

 

 

 

Uma Bhagwati temple at Brariangan is an ancient shrine where devotees used to come in large numbers from different parts of the J&K to pay obeisance to the Goddess. The temple is situated amidst five springs including “Brahma Kund, Vishnu Kund, Rudhra Kund and Shiv Shakti Kund”.

 

 

 

In 1990, when terrorism erupted in Kashmir, the Uma Bhagwati temple was also damaged, resulting in its closure.

 

In the year 1990, the Maa Uma Bhagwati temple was demolished, now the reconstruction of that temple has been done, today Pran Pratishtha was completed, this has increased the faith in Kashmiri Pandits, which is a message of mutual self-help, the yagna that was going on for 3 days was concluded today, I got the opportunity to participate in this holy work, Nityanand Rai posted on X.

 

The Union Minister, speaking to the devotees, was confident that many would visit the temple upon its reopening. He stated that the government's dedication to developing J&K, along with its diverse cultural heritage, would contribute to making the region prosperous and peaceful.
