Five soldiers were martyred, and an equal number sustained injuries when terrorists ambushed an army convoy in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, the army convoy was on its routine patrol when terrorists positioned on a hilltop ambushed the truck with a grenade attack and then began firing with automatic rifles.
Although the soldiers retaliated, the terrorists managed to escape after the attack. A large-scale search operation has been launched in the area to find the terrorists. Meanwhile, the injured army personnel have been admitted to the hospital.
As per the officials, the area in Jammu and Kashmir falls under the 9th Corps of the Indian Army.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a spike in the number of terrorist attacks in the past few months.
Since June 9, there have been terrorist attacks at four locations in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier. Additionally, a civilian and at least seven security personnel were injured.
