Today, India remembers and honours Martyr Captain Anuj Nayyar on his birth anniversary, a name that resonates with unparalleled bravery and sacrifice. Born on August 28, 1975, Captain Nayyar was a fearless warrior who laid down his life during the Kargil War in 1999, defending the nation with unmatched valour.
 
 
As an officer of the 17 Jat Regiment, Captain Nayyar played a pivotal role in the battle of Point 4875, a strategic peak during the Kargil War. Under intense enemy fire, he led his men to victory, neutralising enemy bunkers and securing the position.
 
 
During the battle, Capt Nayyar killed 9 Pakistani soldiers and destroyed three medium machine gun bunkers. Besides Capt Anuj Nayyar, 28 other soldiers were martyred during this entire operation. His courage in the face of overwhelming odds earned him the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest military decoration for valour.
