In a major achievement, the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, is now equipped with 5G connectivity. The Indian Army, with Reliance Jio’s help, installed the service at an altitude of over 16,000 feet in the freezing Karakoram range.
"Another proud milestone achieved! In collaboration with Jio Telecom, Fire and Fury Corps has successfully installed the world’s first 5G mobile tower at Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield. Dedicated to our brave soldiers, this remarkable feat was accomplished by Fire and Fury Signallers and Siachen Warriors, who braved extreme temperatures below -40°C and harsh terrain to install the 5G BTS at North Glacier,” @firefurycorps_IA shared on X.
This development will significantly benefit soldiers deployed in the harsh environment of Siachen. The availability of high-speed internet will enhance operational communication, facilitate real-time information sharing, and allow soldiers to stay connected with their families.
Beyond military use, the introduction of 5G in this remote area also highlights India’s technological prowess and commitment to improving infrastructure in challenging terrains.
