Call for Justice: UK Parliament Tables Motion on Kashmiri Hindu Exodus, Calls for Genocide Recognition

The UK Parliament observed the 35th anniversary of the Kashmiri Hindu genocide by introducing Early Day Motion 645 on January 16, 2025, during its current session. The motion introduced by MP Bob Blackman, solemnly commemorates the coordinated attacks in January 1990 by cross-border Islamic terrorists and their supporters on the Hindu minority population in Kashmir Valley.

Expressing deep sadness and disappointment, the motion extended condolences to British Hindu citizens whose friends and family were killed, injured, or displaced during the planned massacre. It condemned the desecration of holy sites in Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed its commitment to protect the rights of Hindus in the UK, including their right to demand justice.

The motion highlighted the lack of justice and recognition of atrocities committed against Kashmiri Hindus in the past 35 years, drawing attention to the continued occupation of properties belonging to the minority community in Kashmir. It deplored the sponsors of cross-border terrorist attacks and raised concerns about the existence of organisations supporting terrorism within the UK.

Acknowledging the international principle of responsibility to protect, the motion emphasised the obligation of individual states and the global community to prevent genocide and crimes against humanity, as experienced by the Kashmiri Hindus.

The UK Parliament urged the Government of India to fulfill its commitment to formally recognise and acknowledge the genocide of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir. It also called on India to enact the proposed Panun Kashmir Genocide Crime Punishment and Atrocities Prevention Bill in its Parliament.

The motion further appealed to the UK Government to commemorate January 19 as Kashmiri Pandit Exodus Day.
