The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj is witnessing a huge crowd, with more than 50 crore people taking a holy dip at Triveni Sangam by Friday evening, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. It is believed to be the largest gathering of people for any religious or cultural event in history.
This grand fair, which happens once every 12 years, started on January 13 and will continue till February 26. The Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers meet, is considered sacred by Hindus, and people from all over the country and abroad are coming here to take a holy bath.
January 29 saw the largest crowd so far, with a record eight crore devotees took a dip on the special occasion of Mauni Amavasya. The Uttar Pradesh government is making all the arrangements to ensure that everything goes smoothly for the pilgrims.
