India and China are getting ready to restart the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a holy pilgrimage that was stopped in 2020 due to tensions along the border in eastern Ladakh.
The Ministry of External Affairs has said that preparations are underway and an official announcement will be made soon. “We will soon issue a public notice regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. There is a possibility that the yatra may start soon,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing.
The yatra takes Indian pilgrims to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, located in China’s Tibet Autonomous region. It is considered a sacred journey by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon religion.
Along with the yatra, both countries are also discussing the resumption of direct flights between India and China, which were also suspended in 2020 due to the border standoff.
